A glimpse of what you may have the chance to see during your visit ...

Located in the heart of the Regional Natural Park of Verdon at 1905 meters above sea level, the astronomical observatory of Mount Chiran welcomes you on booking.

Created by the National Center for Scientific Research in 1974, the observatory enjoys excellent sky quality and remarkable atmospheric stability.

Today we welcome you to the refuge for one or more nights on your hikes, or to contemplate the heavens.

You will discover at the top an exceptional panorama of 360 °, with a view of the Alpine arc, from the Mercantour to the Ecrins, as well as a beautiful glimpse of the Mediterranean, from the bay of Fréjus to the Pyrenees !

This exceptional view will also allow you to see beautiful sunrises and sunsets, accompanied by green rays or seas of clouds.

Thunderstorms are also a spectacle not to be missed, well sheltered by the refuge !

The visible panorama of the observatory allows on a clear day to see about 1/5th of the surface of France !

Under the dome, you will be able to observe nebulae, galaxies, globular clusters, moon and planets using a 406 mm diameter telescope open at F/d 4.5 allowing

astrophotography.

Or the Sun with a coronograph and a H alpha bezel, specifically designed for this purpose.

An astronomy animator will guide you in this celestial hiking to reveal you its beauties and immensities.
